Alopecia Areata
Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss that can be unpredictable or sudden. The hair follicles are mistakenly attacked by the body’s immune system, which causes hair loss not only on the scalp, but sometimes on the face and other parts of the body.
A common form of this disorder is a small, smooth, round patch of hair loss on the scalp. Multiple patches may come together to form even bigger areas of hair loss. This condition is very unpredictable and can spontaneously recover without treatment. However, the issue may come back and cause hair to fall out again. Some people will experience hair loss and regrowth cycles.
Treatments for the issue include Minoxidil, Topical Immunotherapy, Oral Immunosuppressants, JAK inhibitors, and Corticosteroids.
